Patient Stories
Jane
Lane's Kids
The Osteopathic Center for Children has many
special friends who help support children and
families treated at the Center.
Jane Lane, a flight attendant (now retired),
has established "a special charity for
the special children of the world". She
raises funds to help defray the costs of
housing when families come from afar for a
series of treatments.
The charity is celebrating their 7th
birthday. In 2000 they assisted 28 persons and
this past year they have helped 128 persons
from all over the world. Not only does Jane
raise the funds, but she helps with scheduling
and helps them adjust to our community.
Without support from Jane's numerous
friends, these families would not have been
able to enjoy the incomparable benefits of
osteopathic treatments for their
children.
Well done Jane!
Families Praise Osteopathic Treatments
San Diego
I'm writing to let you know how important
and how much Dr. Shawn Centers has helped our
family. I was very desperate because my son
had frequent seizures and very little
mobility.
I'm very thankful and have noticed a big
change in Erick. His problems include slow
learning and psychomotor problems. Also his
sight was damaged. In addition to osteopathic
treatments Erick was referred to a sensory
motor specialist and to a developmental
optometrist all who are available at the OCC.
After the osteopathic treatments started, we
realized that Erick could follow objects or
lights moving slowly in front of him. Before,
he did not respond to sound nor could he track
or pay attention to objects.I thank God and
all the people that are helping us.
Erick's seizures are almost gone. Without
the care Erick is receiving I think it very
hard for him to succeed.
On behalf of my son Erick and myself, I thank
you for all the help the Osteopathic Center
has provided.
Oklahoma
Our daughter suffered strains in the skull at
birth and is considered autistic and brain
injured.
I asked an osteopathic physician whose
opinion we value, “If Elizabeth was your
child who would you take her to.” He
answered, “Without a doubt, I would
suggest Dr. Viola Frymann in California. All
D.O.’s applaud her for her skills and
qualifications.”
Another physician on the East Coast told us
that Dr. Frymann was “the most qualified
osteopath to work with children with
muscoskeletal problems and that she was world
renown.”
We as a family from Oklahoma felt the
severity of Elizabeth’s problem that we
moved the entire family for five months to La
Jolla to receive the necessary
treatment.
Now she is much better neurologically, she is
thinking more clearly and physically she looks
better. She can now read and spell and has
completed kindergarten and is midway through
the lst grade. She can clap, wave, scribble
and is beginning to color. We didn’t
know she could succeed at all these efforts
and we attribute the help to osteopathic
treatments.
We believe that if an osteopath examines a
newborn, years of confusion and discomfort
could be eliminated.
Now Dr. Frymann has a new Center, she can
teach more physicians her talents and skills
so our future children can be helped more than
they are today.
Lakeside
Dr. Frymann is a special person. She is one
of the most dedicated, hard working people
that I have ever met. She gives her life to
her work and the children she cares for. She
offers people help for their children at a
time when they have lost their hope. Anyone
who has a child knows that there is no feeling
as desperate as when that child is sick or
hurting and you can’t make it better.
Dr. Frymann makes it better. Ia m grateful
that my children are lucky enough to be
treated by her.
San Diego
Osteopathic medicine as it is practiced at
the Osteopathic Center for Children &
Families in conjunction with diet guidelines
and exercise has been the most effective
treatment we have encountered because it
treats the person and the person heals. We had
tried many, many different treatments before
finding the Center and none compared or showed
the results we have experienced with
osteopathy.
We are supportive of the new and enlarged
Center so that more kids can benefit and more
physicians and medical students can be trained
to do this work.
Los Angeles
I learned of Dr. Viola Frymann in France as
she is well known overseas.
Our daughter had seizures and was taking a
lot of drugs. She was sleepy, couldn’t
balance and walk well.
After a series of osteopathic treatments from
Dr. Frymann, we were able to get rid of all
the medications. Our daughter leads a normal
life and goes to school. Osteopathy has helped
us with all aspects of her life. Dr. Frymann
is a good psychologist. Osteopathy is
great!
I was treated when I was pregnant with my
third child. It was the easiest delivery. The
baby was much calmer, sleeps more,
doesn’t cry excessively, and has no
colic.
We make the trip to La Jolla from Los Angeles
once a month with three kids. The drive is
really a drag with three kids but we know that
it is helping all of our kids and helps to
avoid problems in the future, especially for
the baby.
San Diego
I learned about the Osteopathic Center for
Children from a friend who took her children
to the Center. We took our child and he
recovered from the colic. We decided to
continue on a regular basis.
I too asked for osteopathic treatments as our
second child had a few problems.
All osteopaths are not the same. Dr. Frymann
is from the “old school”. Her
treatments are more long term.
Quail Valley
Chiropractor
Our daughter was born three weeks early and
she was not moving her arms. Dr. Frymann
helped to develop her arms. She brought out
the best of her potential. The treatments
produced not just healing but an attitude
missing in the chiropractic college I went
to.
Dr. Frymann is quite a woman, quite a
physician. She opened up some doors as far as
putting pieces together for overall health.
She brings out the best in people instead of
trying to claim victory.
The contributions of osteopathic health care
are second to none as far as prevention, a
drugless society and things of this nature
which are absolutely necessary.
We are grateful to Sutherland’s work
and the following through and commitment on
Dr. Frymann’s part.
I believe people who have been looking for
this new Osteopathic Center in their hearts
even though they don’t know much about
it, know they need something, something for
their children, discipline for their own minds
and how to raise their own kids. This is an
entire, complete program in attitude and even
applicable functional techniques not only in
homes but in the hearts and minds. It will
change a lot of people’s health status
in the generations to come.
Mountain Center,
California
I first learned of Dr. Frymann and the O.C.C.
18 years ago. I had several girl friends that
took their children to see Dr. Frymann and I
occasionally accompanied them. Being in the
health field myself, a R.N. and a massage
polarity therapist, I was interested in what
was going on at the Center.
I took my daughter to Dr. Frymann right after
her birth. When she was nearly four, she had a
hard fall and fractured her skull. I felt so
fortunate to have Dr. Frymann as my
daughter’s physician because she found
some areas on the C.T. Scan that the emergency
room doctors did not find and she was able to
treat them as well as the gross fracture.
Today there is no physical evidence of her
having this serious accident. Thanks to
additional treatment her hearing was in normal
limits. Yeah! Thank you Dr. Frymann.
I love osteopathic care! I find it treats the
whole person and allows the body to heal
itself. I have never seen a more dedicated
doctor than Dr. Frymann. I shall be forever
grateful.
I have recently had a few friends that have
started to receive osteopathic care. One is a
teenager who had a traumatic birth and now
after 7-8 months of treatment he no longer
stutters.
Milan
My husband and I first knew about osteopathy
in 1979.
My husband had been suffering from severe
headaches since childhood and after consulting
many physicians without any results he heard
about Francis Peyralade, an Osteopathe in
Paris.
After six months of osteopathic treatments he
got rid of his headaches and has never
suffered from them again.
Mr. Peyralade mentioned Dr. Frymann, his
“maestra” --a much venerated
--teacher.
Dr. Frymann has dedicated her life to
osteopathy and especially to helping children.
She is teaching osteopathy all over the world
and has done real “miracles” in
helping severely handicapped children.
When I was pregnant with my second child at
the age of 40, it was clear to me that I did
not want any risks. I came to La Jolla to be
treated during pregnancy and 10 days after our
daughter was due, I was treated. It helped me
during the whole process of birth which made
things much easier for me. She was born with a
large cephalhematoma on the head and
immediately treated after birth. The next day
her head was back to normal shape to the
astonishment of the staff in the
nursery.
We continue to come for treatments and our
daughter has been a happy and healthy child
ever since.
Escondido
Both my grandson and granddaughter have been
treated for years. I just wish I could win the
lottery so that I could give all the financial
help they need.
A neighbor
Again a thank you for treating our son so
graciously when he traveled across your lawn
some nine years ago in our vintage mustang
convertible. Hope everything you wish for the
children comes true.
San Diego
We have learned of Dr. Frymann from many
different sources over a period of months--
mostly from grateful mothers in waiting rooms
(physical therapy etc.). When our friend
started taking her son, we saw first hand what
changes were happening in him . I started
going to parent’s meetings.
Jamie doesn’t have a
“diagnosis” as such-- she has a
low muscle tone and sensory integration
problems. This resulted in a very slow,
awkward movements-- she didn’t really
want to move much. Also though very friendly
and outgoing, she would be unable to carry on
a conversation-- she somehow couldn’t
process words; let them in and understand them
enough to respond.
I was very concerned for her health wise
also. She wasn’t growing at a normal
rate, her immune system seemed weak and she
had recurrent ear infections. She was allergic
to most foods (dairy, wheat, soy, eggs
etc.)
Dr. Frymann was the first physician that was
able to give us reassurance that something
could really address Jamie’s
difficulties. It was such a relief not to have
her “cut up” into different
symptoms each with its own specialist. And it
was so wonderful the way Dr. Frymann and all
the staff accepted her, showed approval of her
as she was. There was no drawing away because
of her problems as many doctors and people in
general do.
In the year and six months that we saw Dr.
Frymann, we have seen great improvement in all
our areas of concern--family ( grandparents,
aunts etc.) and friends have noticed and
commented on how gracefully she moves, how she
can carry on a conversation. She is much more
active. She wants to play at the playground
now instead of just sitting in the sand and
watching others.
She is gaining control over her body and she
is much more confident. Her health has
improved and her food sensitivities have
diminished. She has grown a number of inches.
The curvature in her lower back is
straightening.
Though Jamie’s difficulties, will never
completely resolve, Dr. Frymann, the
physicians and staff plus the moms and dads at
the Center have helped me to see her as a
whole, as perfect the way she is and that is
the most healing aspect of the Center-- the
priceless and unique gift given there.
Osteopathic medicine as it is practiced at
the Center in conjunction with homeopathy,
diet guidelines and exercise has been the most
effective treatment we have encountered.
Because it sees and treats the person (not all
the symptoms the person happens to have) the
person heals. We had tried many, many
different treatments for Jamie before finding
the Center and none compare or showed the
results we’ve seen with this system of
healing.
We are very supportive of the Center so that
more kids can benefit and so more people can
be trained to do this work.
Chicago
I learned of Dr. Frymann from other mothers
who have special need kids while I was
attending a workshop in Chicago about a year
ago.
I had a “Buddha” baby who would
sit up but not move. Dr. Frymann got him to
experience some movement and after two visits
to San Diego he was creeping on all fours! The
osteopathic treatment opened up a whole system
so that he could do a lot more. It gave him a
base. A month after our second treatment, he
visited the physical therapist who was
incredibly impressed by the changes.
We came to San Diego for treatments as Dr.
Frymann felt she could help him get on track.
We believed in her because she had years of
experience, a wonderful reputation and she
certainly is not in it for money.
Chicago
Some years ago, Renee, a Special Educator and
Ken,Psychologist/Psychtherapist wrote the
following about their son:
“We made the trip to the Osteopathic
Center for Children from Chicago. He had been
diagnosed as cerebral palsied, hemi-paretic--
meaning that the entire right side of his body
suffered from a partial paralysis.
As professionals concerned with disabled
children, we had been able to avail ourselves
of the best medical and other therapeutic
professionals we could find for our son. We
had little hope when we came but in a few
months we were shocked and delighted to see
dramatic changes.
Our son’s right side had been flaccid
and misshapen, with postural, motor and
ambulatory problems that mirrored the shape of
his skull. Within six months, we began to see
positive changes in the shape of his face,
something we thought could never happen. We
also had been told that he needed extensive
orthodontic work. That dire prediction has
been substantively modified due to the
osteopathic treatments.
His gait, clarity of thinking, athletic
skills and general sense of well-being have
all improved well beyond ordinary
developmental expectations. He became an honor
role student, a purple belt in Karate and a
feeling, active young adult.
We feel privileged to recommend the OCC to
others who may benefit from their
extraordinary approach to the rehabilitation
of children.
In August 1998, the family provided us with
the following update!
“ Our son has a blackbelt in Shodokan
Karate and has won medals in in national
competitions. He graduated with honors from
high school and is currently majoring in
Psychology and English at College. All of
these achievements speak to our son’s
character and the ways he was able to
integrate Dr. Frymann’s extraordinary
and remarkable work”.
El Cajon
Dr. Frymann is great!
Our son who has been treated since he was
three months old, is a very severely brain
injured child. For four and a half years, Dr.
Frymann has helped him breathe easier,
loosened his tightened muscles, offered sound
nutritional advice and treated him as a whole
person.
What more could a parent ask for?
